35 Years* in business!

* that is in dog years....

This month is Animal Ark’s 5th year in business! To kick it off, I have launched my online appointment system.

Here is a wholesome recipe for
Oatmeal Cookies to share with your dog.

This recipe has no milk or butter, has less sugar and without certain optional ingredients, they are good enough for your dog to eat as well! Actually, after I made them I realized they may actually be too good for dogs. But try to share!

Oatmeal Cookies

  • 1 cup nuts (I use pecans)
  • 3/4 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg1 tsp vanilla
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 3 cups oats

Toast nuts on a cookie sheet in a 300°F oven for 10 minutes. Cream vegetable shortening and brown sugar together with mixer. Add egg and vanilla to creamed mixture and whip well. Stir together dry ingredients (except oats and pecans), then add to creamed mixture and beat well. Add the oats and toasted pecans and mix well.

(Don’t use raisins or chocolate chips for pets, but you can add up to 1 cup more of optional ingredients such as peanuts, dried blueberries, carob chips, etc...)

Form into balls and place onto ungreased cookie sheet. Slightly flatten with fork.

Bake at 350°F for 10-12 minutes. Let cool before removing from pan. Makes about 3 1/2 dozen cookies. You may make them smaller to share with small dogs.

Bone appetite!
